Touro Appoints New Dean for Law Center
June 18, 2019Elena B. Langan was appointed dean of the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, Touro College and University President Dr. Alan Kadish announced today. Dean Langan is the Law Center’s seventh dean and she will assume her new role on August 1, 2019.
“Dean Langan brings an impressive record of academic leadership experience to Touro Law Center that is student-focused, strategic and engaging of all constituencies,” said President Kadish.
Langan is currently the Dean of Concordia Law School in Boise, Idaho where she significantly enhanced the reputation of the law school by creating the 5th and Front Program, described as a place where law and social justice meet in service to the community. She has strategically designed and developed several innovative JD and non-JD programs.
“I am honored to be selected to serve as the next dean of Touro Law Center,” said Langan. “It is exciting to join a school with such a strong commitment to providing a quality legal education that allows students to develop effective, practical lawyering skills while providing pro bono legal services to underserved populations. I am looking forward to working together with the law school’s dedicated and talented faculty, staff, students, and supporters and becoming a part of the vibrant Long Island community.”
Prior to her current position, Langan served as Interim Dean of Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There, she was also the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of the first year lawyering skills and values program. At Nova, she served on numerous task forces and committees including the Bar Pass Task Force and the professionalism curriculum committee. She was responsible for curricular and assessment changes consistent with student learning outcomes and bar passage. As Interim Dean, she led the effort to more than double enrollment in online non-JD masters programs, increased opportunities for student experiential learning by expanding clinical offerings and led successful fundraising efforts to support student scholarships and law school programs.
Prior to entering academia, Dean Langan practiced law in Maryland and in Florida. Her scholarship focuses on law school pedagogy and law school admissions, as well as family law. Dean Langan has been active in the American Association of Law Schools, the Inns of Court and state and national bar associations. She is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland School of Law.

Her ability to engage both students and external stakeholders will enable the school to reach new heights benefitting students, alumni and the community at large,” Salkin continued.
Touro College and University System thanks previous Dean Harry Ballan for his leadership and stewardship of the Law Center.
