Biography
Joyce Kendrick  began her legal career as a Defense Attorney in the Criminal Division of the Legal Aid Society in Manhattan.  She joined Brooklyn Defender Services (BDS) in 1997 as a Staff Attorney, and since 2004 has served as the primary attorney responsible for representing BDS clients in Brooklyn Mental Health Court. These are clients that have been charged with felonies and suffer from serious and persistent mental illness. In addition to her position as a Senior Trial Attorney at BDS, she is an adjunct Professor at St. John’s University School of Law and has taught Trial Advocacy in the New York Corporation Counsel Training Program. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with a Minor in Child and Family Studies from Stony Brook University,  and a Master of Arts in Education with high honors from Ashford University. She earned her J.D from Touro Law Center, where she served as BLSA President and received awards recognizing her extraordinary services to the Council on Legal Education Opportunity as well as various school service awards.
