Welcome to the Black Law Students Association (BLSA)
at Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center! Our
organization focuses on leadership, scholarship and
community service. There are many great benefits and
wonderful perks involved in being a member of Touro
BLSA, among those are opportunities to network, make
lasting friendships and confront social and legal issues
for the purpose of resolving these issues. Touro BLSA is
an organization that accepts and nurtures members from
all walks of life who are interested in, and appreciate,
African American and Caribbean culture.
Touro BLSA has many programs that benefit its members
such as our mentoring program where 1Ls are paired with
2Ls and 3Ls to provide friendship, guidance, and
support. We also have programs meant to help students
learn the various extra curricular aspects of the legal
profession. This Fall we will be hosting a golf outing
to which Hofstra Law School students, various legal
professionals and professors have been invited.
Moreover, we pride ourselves in making connections with
our alumni. This year we will be hosting an alumni
reception to ensure that our connections with our Black
alumni remain strong.
At Touro Law Center, BLSA is known as one of the most
active student organizations. We were named student
organization of the year in 2003-2004 and 2005-2006. We
have speakers and monthly events that appeal to the
needs of our communities.
In addition to our own academic and social programming,
we participate in various National (NBLSA) and Northeast
Regional (NEBLSA) events such as academic retreats, moot
court and mock trial competitions and numerous other
social and community service oriented events. Last year
Touro's Mock Trial team ranked higher than two teams
from Harvard Law School.
The Touro BLSA does not make strides alone -- it
survives through the participation of its members and
the Touro community. Please review our events and join
in our success. If you have any questions or concerns,
please email us at BLSA@tourolaw.edu.
