The New York Collection consists of materials necessary to the study and practice of law in New York. Researchers have available the complete legal opinions of the state courts, current and former editions of the state code, session laws and other legislative materials, administrative codes, decisions of administrative agencies, historic documents, and bibliographic tools for state document research. Practice resources include treatises, form books, digests, encyclopedias, legal newspapers, and other legal periodicals.

Our extensive microform holdings include codes, early law reports, selected records and briefs, legal newspapers, other legal periodicals, and historic state government documents.

The collection includes municipal and county codes for New York City, Suffolk County, Nassau County, and several Suffolk County towns and villages.

Many materials are available in electronic format. Students and faculty have access to New York databases on LexisNexis and Westlaw; CD-Rom versions of the state reports, code, and the state administrative code are available through the Law Center network under Library Resources; and many agencies and departments maintain web sites with information, decisions, and regulations.

In addition, the Law Center community has access through the library intranet to the Legislative Retrieval Service, an online service provided by the New York Legislative Bill Drafting Commission that includes bills, memoranda, legislative information, tax materials, and many more items.
