with Judge Karen Friedman
The Jewish Law Institute's Fall 2016 Distinguished Lecturer is the Hon. Karen "Chaya" Friedman. Judge Karen "Chaya" Friedman has served as a Judge in Baltimore, Maryland, since 2001, and as Associate Judge of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City since 2014. One of a handful of Orthodox Jews who serve as Judges in the United States, Judge Friedman has served in diverse community roles including: Founder and Co-Chair, Domestic Violence Interfaith Initiative; Chair, Advisory Board, Counseling, Helpline and Aid Network for Abused Women (CHANA); Co-Chair, Board of Directors, Elijah Cummings Youth Program in Israel; Board of Directors, Women's Department, Associated Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore; Member, Women’s Leadership Forum, Democratic National Committee; Selection Committee , Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Fund for the Enrichment of Jewish Education. She has been recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women by the Daily Record.
