Israel (2010) – Jerusalem
Ancient History, Modern Law
About the Program
Touro Law Center is delighted to host its second summer law program in Jerusalem, Israel. This ABA-approved program will be held at the Agron Guest House located right in the center of Jerusalem, near the tourism sites of both the old and new city. Touro has the only summer law program based in the historical city of Jerusalem. Located in the Judean Mountains, between the Mediterranean Sea and the northern tip of the Dead Sea, Jerusalem has stood for several millennia at the crossroads of many of the world’s major civilizations and religions, including Judaism, Islam, and Christianity.
Against the backdrop of this vibrant, modern city, steeped in history and spiritual significance, law students in Touro’s summer program can earn up to six credits in five courses, including: International Human Rights (2 credits), The Arab-Israel Conflict and its Resolution: Legal Aspects (2 Credits), Biomedical Ethics (2 credits), History, Law and Politics of Selected Political Trials in Israel (1 credit), and Civil Liberties in an Age of Terror (1 credit). We also hope to have many guest speakers – judges, lawyers, human rights activists, etc. – to enrich the academic experience.
Planned excursions will introduce students to both modern Israel and its ancient roots, and a variety of programs will highlight Israel’s political and religious significance. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in optional weekend excursions to such destinations as the Dead Sea, Haifa, Eilat, and Petra. Tel Aviv is readily available from Jerusalem by public transportation.
Touro Law Center reserves the right to modify or cancel a program for reasonable
cause, including but not limited to insufficient enrollment, severe political instability,
or any serious condition that may threaten the safety of the students. If a program
is cancelled, any money paid to Touro by a program participant will be fully refunded
within 20 days, except for room and board and transportation payments utilized prior
to the date of cancellation.
