Offered by the School of Social Welfare, Health Sciences Center at State University of New York at Stony Brook, the Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) promotes integration of the disciplines of law and social work. The curriculum of the dual degrees program incorporates professional education in both fields, thereby addressing the relationships among legal doctrine, legal process, and social service.

The M.S.W. involves extensive clinical training and ordinarily requires 64 credits for satisfaction of the degree requirements. Taken in conjunction with the J.D., the dual degrees load represents a savings of 30 credits, for a total of 122 credits (88 + 64 - 30). The specific allocation of cross-transfer credit between the two institutions is dictated by the site for supervision of the final thesis.
