John S. Bainbridge Moot Court Competition
Second year student Daniel Cutler wins competition
Central Islip, N.Y. – Daniel Cutler, a second year student, won the 25th Annual Bainbridge Moot Court Competition held at Touro Law Center on Wednesday, September 19, 2007. Mr. Cutler prevailed in a close decision over second year student Catharine Reyes-Tuzinkewicz, before an audience of faculty, students, families and friends. New Jersey State Supreme Court Justice Jaynee LaVecchia served as chief justice of the finals bench. Joining her were Raymond J. Dearie, Chief Judge of the United States District Court, Eastern District of New York; Robert W. Pratt, Chief Judge of the United States District Court, Southern District of Iowa; and Dean Lawrence Raful. In the competition, named for former Touro Law Center dean John S. Bainbridge, eligible 2Ls write appellate briefs and participate in oral arguments before panels of distinguished judges. The competition concluded with a reception, at which the new Moot Court members were welcomed, and the Judge George C. Pratt Award for contributions to Moot Court was presented to Professor Myra Berman.
Congratulations also to semifinalists Jennifer Kennedy and Madeline Klotz. In addition to the finalists and semifinalists, eight other students earned membership in the Moot Court Board: Rosalinde Casalini, Rachel Grinspan, Adam Markou, Jared Behr, Olga Lankios, Brian Picarello, Timothy Shortt, and Natalia Vassilieva. Brian Picarello received the award for Best Brief.
The Moot Court Board is the Law Center’s elite interschool appellate advocacy team. Members participate in appellate advocacy competitions against teams from other schools throughout the academic year.
