Touro Law Center Remembers Clarence
Darrow on 80th Anniversary
Huntington, NY –
Touro Law Center and Prof. J. Kirkland Grant will present an
entertaining program on Clarence Darrow, marking the 80th
anniversary of the Scopes “Monkey” Trial. The event takes place
on Wednesday, September 14th, from 6pm-8pm in the
Auditorium. It is free and open to the public. Continuing Legal
Education Credits are available.
Prof. Grant will discuss Darrow’s most significant cases,
discussing issues of law that are still relevant to the bar
today. Darrow was known as America’s greatest lawyer between
1894-1925. In a unique twist, Darrow will be portrayed by
heralded actor Gary L. Anderson, giving a first-person account
of his triumphs. Darrow never lost a death penalty case, saving
102 men from the gallows. With a national debate focused on the
preservation of civil liberties amid concerns for the public
safety from terrorism, Anderson’s powerful and absorbing
portrayal of a remarkable American is uniquely appropriate to
our current national state of mind.
In this unique presentation, Anderson, as Darrow, recounts the
greatest trials of the lawyer’s career, including the Scopes
“Monkey” Trial, while providing personal insights into his
character and philosophies. The presentation is sponsored by The
Alexander Hamilton Inn of the American Inns of Court.
