TOURO PRESENTS CONFERENCE ON THE
POLITICAL AND SOCIAL SITUATION IN ISRAEL: A TORAH PERSPECTIVE
Queens, NY -- Touro College, Touro College
Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center and the Law Center’s Institute of
Jewish Law will present a conference on Sunday June 18, 2006 at
Lander College for Men, located at 75-31 150th
Street, in Flushing, Queens. Entitled “The Political and Social
Situation in Israel: A Torah Perspective,” the conference will
feature presentations by leading scholars and rabbis from Israel
and the United States. Security, religious and social issues in
Israel are of great concern to Jewish people all over the world,
and the conference will address these problems from a Torah
perspective.
Presenters at the conference will include
Rabbi Israel M. Lau, formerly the chief rabbi of Israel and
currently chief rabbi of Tel Aviv; Rabbi Shear-Yashuv Cohen,
chief rabbi of Haifa; Rabbi Hershel Schachter, Rosh Kollel Elyon
at Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary; and Rabbi Dr.
Moshe Tendler, Professor of Talmudic Law at Yeshiva University.
The morning session will be moderated by Rabbi Tzvi Flaum,
Mashgiach Ruchani and Professor of Judaic Studies at Lander
College for Women, and the afternoon session will be moderated
by Rabbi Dr. Moshe Sokol, Dean of Lander College for Men.
Rabbi Dr. Bernard Lander, Founder and
President of Touro College, and Lawrence Raful, Dean of Touro
College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, will deliver greetings
and opening remarks will be made by Rabbi Dr. Chaim Povarsky,
Director of the Institute of Jewish Law at the Law Center.
The conference is free and
open to the public, and a complimentary lunch will be served.
