Concrete
Progress
On Friday,
April 29, 2005, the first concrete was poured for the foundation of
the Law Center’s future home in revitalized Central Islip, NY.
The $35 million, 180,000 square foot facility will soon be
rising beside the Cohalan New York State Court Complex and the
Alphonse D’Amato United States Courthouse, the latter the
second-largest such facility in the country.
Topping
Off Officials celebrated again at a
ceremonial "Topping Off" on Tuesday, November 1, 2005,
to mark the end of steel construction at the site. In
attendance: Honorable Arthur Spatt, U.S. District Court Judge,
Eastern District; Hon. H. Patrick Leis III, District
Administrative Judge, Tenth Judicial District (Suffolk Co.);
State Senators Caesar Trunzo and Ken LaValle; Touro College
President Dr. Bernard Lander; Touro Law Center Dean Lawrence
Raful; and Dean Emeritus Howard Glickstein, along with other
state, county and town officials, judges, faculty, staff,

well-wishers signed the last beam, which was hoisted to the apex
of the building and riveted in to applause.

site. Third-year Trial Practice students argued a mock case in
the courthouse before sitting State Supreme Court Judge Joseph
Pastoressa for their final exam. Ribbon
Cutting Classes began on the new campus on
Tuesday, January 16, 2006. An official "Ribbon Cutting"
was held on the following Monday. Speakers included Suffolk
County Executive Steve Levy, US District Court Judge Leonard
Wexler, State Supreme Court Judge H. Patrick Leis III, Touro
College President Bernard Lander and Touro Law Center Dean
Lawrence Raful. Scores of alumni, students, faculty and staff
also attended. The opening was covered by a wide variety of
newspapers and
