The Central Park Five - Screening and Discussion
BLSA and the Amistad Long Island Black Bar Association present the film The Central Park Five followed by a panel discussion of the legal issues. The film examines the 1989 case of 5 black and Latino teenagers who were wrongly convicted of raping a white woman in Central Park. They spent between 6 and 13 years in prison before a serial rapist confessed that he alone had committed the crime, leading to their convictions being overturned.
The panel discussion includes the filmmaker Sarah Burns, two of the wrongfully convicted teenagers Yusef Salaam and Raymond Santana, Professor Klein, and Assoc Prof of Law at New York Law School Kirk Burkhalter.
