For Second Straight Year, Touro Law School

Welcomes Record-Setting Class

Enrollment Boom Continues as Campus Prepares

for Move to Central Islip

Huntington, N.Y. – Touro Law School welcomed another record-setting entering class this year. Selectivity, test scores and applications over the past two years for the 25-year-old Suffolk County institution are at all-time highs. Positive momentum is being built as Touro embraces a physical and academic renaissance.

Touro is currently undertaking a bold, multi-million-dollar strategic plan that includes a cutting-edge new curriculum and a move to a new home in Central Islip by fall 2006, adjacent to and working with state and federal courts. This modern “law campus” will be the first of its kind anywhere and a national model.

This year’s boom comes on the heels of last year’s stellar admissions numbers. Suddenly, Touro is defying regional admissions trends: Applications are up 10% at the law school while in the Northeast overall, applications are down an average of 2%.

The 2005-2006 entering class is one of the best ever, with 301 new students joining the campus, bringing total enrollment to the largest number ever: 764, up from last year’s trendsetting numbers: 275 and 755 respectively. Selectivity is also the best ever, with only about 30 percent of applicants accepted during the past two years.

Continuing to serve as Suffolk County’s only law school, Touro’s new campus will stress hands-on legal education, expanding learning from the classroom and textbooks into real courtrooms. The total cost of the project is expected to be approximately $33 million. This modern, 180,000-square-foot law campus will also be a cornerstone in an effort to revitalize Central Islip.

Touro Law Center, known for its expert faculty and excellent programs, was established in 1980 as part of Touro College, which has campuses in New York, California and Nevada, as well as in Germany, Israel and Russia. The Law Center is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools.
