talented individuals for a Counsel 1 position in its New
York City location. The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority
(FINRA) is the largest non-governmental regulator for all
securities firms doing business in the United States and is
dedicated to investor protection and market integrity through

Advise and participate in examination and surveillance reviews
and complex investigations conducted by the Department
pertaining to the trading and market making, and sales practice

Counsel will assist in drafting memoranda summarizing
examinations and investigative results, analyzing applicable law
and reviewing evidence to determine legal sufficiency with
respect to suspected violations. In addition, counsel will

Conduct settlement and related discussions with respondents and
their attorneys and review or prepare Offers of Settlements.
Requirements include: Law degree and a minimum of five –
seven years relevant legal experience in a regulatory or legal
environment with current working knowledge of the federal
securities laws, particularly the Securities Exchange of 1934.
Admission to the bar of highest court of the District of
Columbia or state. Excellent oral and written communication and
litigation skills, and interpersonal skills. Experience with
law enforcement or regulatory organization is a plus. FINRA

Fellowship. PRIDE LAW FUND – TOM STEEL POST GRADUATE
FELLOWSHIP. The Tom Steel Post-Graduate Fellowship is to
fund a new lawyer each year to work in the United States on an
innovative, public interest law project that serves the lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgendered community. The Fellowship will
help ensure that unmet legal needs are recognized and
prioritized on an on-going basis, and that the next generation
of legal advocates for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgendered community develops the critical skills necessary
to secure civil rights into the future. Factors considered in
awarding grants include: the need for the project (how
under-served the issue/community is); the anticipated impact of
the project; the organization and structure of the proposal; the
stability and supportiveness of the sponsoring organizations or
attorney; the applicant’s past community or public service
activities; the applicant’s connection and involvement with the
LGBT community. Applicants must be either a student eligible to
graduate in the Spring 2008 semester or a lawyer within three
years of their graduation from law school. A full-time grant of
up to $35,000 will be awarded each year, for an individual to

York State. STATE OF NEW YORK COURT OF APPEALS offers two types
of clerkship opportunities, the first as a clerk
with the Courts Central
Legal Research Staff, and
the second as a personal clerk
to a Judge of the Court.
Central Legal Research Staff:
The Court hires approximately
five or six attorneys for two-year clerkships, beginning in
August 2008. Central Staff clerks work in the Courthouse in
Albany and prepare reports on appeals and motions for leave to
appeal under the direction of the Chief Court Attorney and
Deputy Chief Court Attorney. Central Staff clerks also work on
research projects as requested by the Judges or the Clerk of the
Court. Applications should be filed between July 1st
and September 15th prior to the year in which
employment is sought, and should be addressed to: Mr. Paul

application packet for a Central Staff clerkship must contain a

initial application package (if applicant has been practicing
law following receipt of a J.D. degree, letters from legal
employers may be substituted). Applicants who do not submit
letters or recommendation in their initial package will be
required to bring them to Court, along with unofficial
undergraduate and any other graduate school transcripts, if
selected for an interview. Interviews with prospective
candidates are conducted from August through November in the
year preceding the commencement of the clerkship. Clerkship
offers are usually made by December 1st.

Personal Law Clerks:
Judges of the Court also
employ personal law clerks. Each Judge’s clerk works with the
Judge in home chambers and attends Court sessions in Albany
approximately 50 days per year. Each Judge hires his or her own
clerks and sets his or her own deadlines and requirements for
applications. Candidates interested in this type of clerkship
should contact directly the Judge or Judges for whom they are

REENTRY LEGAL SERVICES (ReLeSe) NETWORK has an opening for a
Managing Attorney position. Candidate must be admitted to
practice in New Jersey, have at least three years litigation
experience, and a proven commitment to the needs of the
indigent. Position located in the Newark office of a major
New Jersey law firm. The ReLeSe Network is a project designed to
help formerly incarcerated individuals address civil legal
matters that are barriers to successful community reintegration.
Organized through a collaboration among Newark Mayor Cory
Booker’s Office, Seton Hall and Rutgers Law Schools, Volunteer
Lawyers for Justice, Legal Services of New Jersey, Essex-Newark
Legal Services, the Newark Alliance, and the New Jersey
Institute for Social Justice, ReLeSe matches clients with
volunteer attorneys to handle issues most commonly encountered
by recently incarcerated individuals but not handled by existing
legal services programs. Referrals to the program are made
by local service providers that work with the reentry population
as well as by Newark City Hall and the Newark Municipal Court.
All assistance is provided free of charge. ReLeSe began as
a pilot project in May 2007 relying solely on volunteer
assistance. Recently, ReLeSe secured a grant from the New Jersey
State Bar Foundation to hire its first Managing Attorney.
General Duties include: Manage the ReLeSe program including
volunteer recruitment, training, recognition and retention;
fundraising; program development and management; and community
outreach. Work closely with the ReLeSe Steering Committee,
the governing body of ReLeSe, to further develop program
policies and procedures. Qualifications include: the
ability to interact with low-income clients; ability to
communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to work
collaboratively with diverse groups of people; ability to manage
support staff and legal interns; ability to handle multiple
tasks and meet deadlines; proficiency with MS Word, database

COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE is seeking a Bilingual Staff
Attorney who will be responsible for providing high-quality
legal representation to victims of domestic violence, dating
violence, stalking and sexual assault on immigrant women’s
rights law (including family, benefits, trafficking) and
advocacy. This position requires knowledge of immigration
options for immigrant victims. The part-time immigration
attorney will work as part of the legal services team, assisting
advocates, counselors, and other legal services attorneys.
The position entails extensive advocacy and litigation,
including motion practice and trials, providing technical
assistance and training to attorneys, advocates and justice
system personnel. In addition to individual case
representation, the staff attorney will be required to provide
information to litigants, conduct community outreach, public and
professional education and trainings, and participate in
legislative and policy initiatives. The attorney will also
collect, report and maintain statistical records.
Responsibilities include providing legal representation and
advocacy to non-citizen victims of domestic violence before the
Citizenship and Immigration Services on a variety of legal
matters including Violence Against Women Act Self Petitions,
Spouse Waivers, Adjustment of Status applications, U and T
visas; drafting pleadings; legal research and writing in the
context of drafting materials and memorandums of law; public
speaking; and supervising volunteer and pro bono attorneys and
student interns. Applicants must be admitted to the New
York State Bar and must have at least three (3) years experience
working directly with immigrant women on immigrant victims’
legal rights issues. Requirements include: knowledge
of immigrant women’s rights and violence against women (domestic
violence, sexual assault, trafficking); and ability to write and

research and advocacy; a commitment to feminism; a commitment to
collaborative cross cultural work; and the ability to work well
with people in diverse settings. Proficiency in a second

Immigration Attorney. Hempstead, NY. NASSAU COUNTY
COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE is seeking a Bilingual Staff
Attorney (Spanish speaking) who will be responsible for
providing high quality, comprehensive legal representation to
low-income and indigent domestic violence victims in
matrimonial, immigration, family offense, child
custody/visitation, PINS and paternity proceedings. The
position entails extensive advocacy and litigation, including
motion practice and trials, in Family Court and Supreme Court.
Responsibilities include providing legal representation and
advocacy to non-citizen victims of domestic violence before the
Citizenship and Immigration Services on a variety of legal
matters including Violence Against Women Act Self Petitions,
Spouse Waivers, Adjustment of Status applications, U and T
visas; drafting pleadings; legal research and writing in the
context of drafting materials and memorandums of law; public
speaking; and supervising volunteer and pro bono attorneys and
student interns. Requirements include: knowledge of immigrant
women’s rights and violence against women (domestic violence,
sexual assault, trafficking); and ability to write and speak
persuasively; an ability to perform creative legal research and
advocacy. In addition to individual case representation, the
staff attorney will be required to provide information to
litigants, conduct community outreach, public and professional
education and trainings, and participate in legislative and
policy initiatives. The attorney will also collect, report and
maintain statistical records. Applicants must be admitted to
the New York State Bar, have at least two (2) years matrimonial
experience, Family Court or other litigation experience and a
strong commitment to working with domestic violence victims.
