American Bar Association Standard 304(d) provides: A law school shall require
regular and punctual attendance.
The faculty has adopted the following policy: The faculty requires that each
student attend classes regularly. Regular attendance is defined as attending at
least 85% of scheduled class hours. Each instructor may raise or lower a
student's grade by 1/3 of a grade based on classroom attendance and/or
participation. A student may, on the recommendation of the instructor, be
precluded by the Dean from taking an examination (or, in a paper course, from
submitting the paper) because of excessive absences. During the first week of
class, each instructor is requested to inform students of this policy and the
number of absences that will be allowed. Before the last two weeks of class, a
student may withdraw from an elective course if he/she is not allowed to
sit for an examination by the professor. However, any student taking a required
course who does not meet the attendance requirement and is not allowed to sit
for the examination, will receive a failing grade of "WF" for the course, which
signifies both failure and non-completion and therefore, may affect one's
residency and financial aid status. (The grade of "WF" is a failing
grade and is computed as part of a student's GPA.)
Allowable absences are calculated at 15% of the number of class hours per
course per semester.
