Touro Law Center Commencement 2008
General Information

The Touro Law Center Commencement Exercises will be
held on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center Plaza,
Broadway and 65th Street, New York City.
Graduates must pick up Caps and Gowns at the Touro Law Center Bookstore from
May 12 – May 23, 2008 during regular business hours.
Please plan to arrive at Lincoln Center Plaza no later than 10:30 a.m. You must
have your cap and gown with you. Caps and gowns will be
distributed beginning the week of May 12th in the bookstore. Hairpins are
helpful to hold caps in place. Please have family members take charge of
personal items, handbags, etc. Attire appropriate for the occasion is
requested. A Touro Law Center Information Table in the lobby of Avery Fisher
Hall will be staffed with graduation volunteers.
The class photograph will be taken at 10:45 a.m. sharp in the Avery Fisher Hall
auditorium. Enter through the Plaza doors and take the stairs to the Left (West
stairs) up one flight to the Grand Promenade. Graduation coordinators will
direct you to the auditorium. (Please arrive by 10:30 a.m.)
Graduates must assemble on Tier One of Avery Fisher Hall after the class
picture (no later than 11:30 a.m.). Enter the Avery Fisher Hall lobby
(Plaza level) and use the stairs or escalator. Tier One is the second level
above the lobby. On Tier One, report to faculty marshals who will organize the
student portion of the academic procession. Your attention and cooperation is
essential to the proper order of the student procession.
The Commencement Exercises will begin at 12:00 noon sharp. It is your
responsibility to be in place in the line of march no later than 11:30 a.m.
ready to enter the hall precisely at 12:00 noon.
If a family member will be participating as a guest hooder please come to or
call the Registrar’s Office no later than Friday, April 4, to confirm the name
and that a cap and gown will be ordered. Specific instructions for your
guest hooder will be provided after you contact the Registrar’s Office to
confirm their participation.
Due to increased security measures, Graduates and guests are requested not to
bring backpacks, bags, etc. into Avery Fisher Hall. Such items may be subject
to search by Lincoln Center security personnel.
Doors to the Avery Fisher Hall Auditorium will open for Guests at 11:30 a.m.
Graduates who have guests who are disabled should contact the Registrar’s
Office regarding special instructions. Early access (11:15 a.m.) to the
auditorium is permitted by special pass only.
Professional photographs will be taken of each graduate during the ceremony.
You will be sent proofs of your individual and class pictures for purchase. We
request that family or friends taking pictures do not approach the stage area.
Graduates and their guests are expected to respect the solemnity and dignity of
the occasion. Behavior that detracts from the ceremony will not be tolerated.
Violators of this request may be asked to leave the auditorium.
Cap and Gown Return – Bookstore personnel and graduation volunteers
will be available outside the Avery Fisher Hall auditorium for graduates to
return gowns (and gold stoles for LL.M. students). The juris doctor hood and
cap are yours to keep. The gowns are rentals only and graduates will be charged
for gowns that are not returned. Please remember that degrees cannot be
conferred until all obligations to the Law Center are satisfied including the
return of graduation gowns. Your cooperation in promptly returning these items
will be appreciated.
Academic Attire
All graduates wear the Touro Law Center cap and gown. LL.M. students wear a
gold stole and students graduating with honors wear gold honor cords.
Graduating With Honors

3.600 and above |
Graduates earning these honors will wear gold honor cords as part of their
academic attire for the ceremony and their names will be included on a page in
the Commencement Program as an insert. Professors are required to submit final
grades for graduating students by Monday, May 20.
What if graduation requirements are not complete by May 25?
All May graduates participating in the commencement ceremony are considered to
be candidates for graduation. Diplomas are not distributed at the ceremony. All
requirements must be complete by the degree conferral date – June 24, 2008.
