60 THE TO URO LAWYER FALL 201 5 HAROLD ABRAMSON Professor of Law Appointments In November 2014 Professor Abramson was selected by the International Academy of Mediators IAM to serve at their first Scholar-in-virtual Resident. In March 2015 he was selected by UNLV Saltman Center on Dispute Resolution to be one of first two Senior ADR Scholars. He was also selected again for International Whos Who of Commercial Mediation. Presentations ABA Planning Committee for International Mediation Summit in Delhi February 2015 - Professor Abramson served on the planning committee for this International Summit and served as Chair of the Post-Summit Initiatives Subcommittee. At the Delhi Summit he presented four times including opening the substantive sessions by introducing an opening that was designed to facilitate connections among the 150 participants and begin harvesting the collective wisdom of the group. He also facilitated the final plenary session. In addition he participated on the panels of two programs. He presented on a plenary panel that focused on the UN new initiative to draft an international treaty for enforcing mediated settlements. The panel was moderated by the head of UNCITRAL the branch of the UN responsible for drafting the treaty. He also presented in a half day workshop on mediation advocacy. The subject was how to bridge cultural differences that may arise during an international mediation. Treaty on Enforcement of Mediated Settlement Agreements Cross-Border Professor Abramson is working with the U.S. State Department and UNCITRAL UN Agency on drafting a treaty for enforcing mediated settlement agreements cross- border. He participated in a series of meetings facilitated by the State Department gave written feedback on draft proposals and attended the meeting at the UN in July when the initiative was first presented and he presented at the February UN meeting on why the treaty should cover the enforcement of non-monetary provisions. International Academy of Mediators IAM - At the Chicago meeting of IAM in November the Board of Directors approved a proposal to create a new program called Scholar-in-Residence SIR Program and the board selected him as their first SIR. Professor Abramson agreed to design this first of a kind program over year one and then serve in the role for year two. At this same Chicago meeting he presented Nelson Mandela as Negotiator What can we learn from him In late May 2014 at an IMI Board Meeting - Professor Abramson facilitated a one and half-day strategic planning process for the Board of Directors of the IMI International Mediation Institute San Diego Advanced Mediation Program AMATI Association of Mediation Assessors Trainers and Instructors. In the Spring AMATI based in London was launched. Professor Abramson was asked to serve on its founding advisory board and to present at its first conference in London in the fall. AMATI arranged for him to present by Skype. He presented on the need to design assessment techniques in training programs in order to determine whether trainees are learning what we are teaching. PR International Institute for Dispute Resolution Awards Committee December and January He served on an Awards Committee that reviewed nominations for the best law review article. ICC International Mediation Representation Competition- Ninth Annual Paris France February - He served as a mediator in this global competition. 16th Annual Conference of ABA Section of Dispute Resolution in Seattle April - At the ABA annual dispute resolution meeting Professor Abramson presented on how to mediate intercultural disputes. La Trobe University Australia - In June he presented a program on mediation advocacy and intercultural mediations for the La Trobe University School of Law in Melbourne Australia.
