Hon. James F. Matthews is a judge for the Suffolk County District Court and Acting County Court Judge in Suffolk County, New York. He is currently assigned to the 325(d) part in Suffolk County, a trial ready part with an even split between contract and tort cases. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Touro Law School.  He was re-elected to the court in November 2020, for a term commencing on January 1, 2021, and expiring on December 31, 2026. Before becoming a judge, Judge Matthews worked as an attorney in private practice, served as Town Attorney for the Town of Huntington and as a special counsel to the town Zoning Board of Appeals and as Village Attorney of the Village of Northport. Judge Matthews received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his J.D. degree from St. John's University School of Law.
