Touro Hires Director of Veterans Clinic

Dean Harry Ballan is delighted to announce the appointment of Chad Lennon ’16 as Director of the Veterans’ and Servicemembers’ Rights Clinic at Touro Law. 

“Chad is uniquely qualified to oversee all facets of the clinic,” stated Dean Ballan. “He exhibits great leadership, and his knowledge, skills, and background will be an asset to both the veterans’ community that we serve and the students who work with him.”

In his role as clinic director, Mr. Lennon will supervise students and provide instruction in substantive law and procedure relevant to the clinic’s work and the necessary lawyering skills. The clinic primarily represents homeless, at-risk and sheltered U.S. armed forces veterans in matters that will remove barriers to their reentry into the community, in areas such as landlord-tenant, housing and employment discrimination, debt  and collection, bankruptcy, credit repair, traffic tickets, warrants, driver license restoration, child support modifications, expunging criminal records, discharge review and upgrade proceedings, and minor criminal matters heard in specialized veterans treatment courts.

Lennon graduated from Touro Law with honors in January 2016. After graduation, he worked at Murnane and O’Neill as a criminal defense attorney representing clients facing numerous misdemeanor and felony charges. Subsequently, he worked at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in District Court and the East End prosecuting misdemeanor and felony cases. He was also the representative in the Veterans Treatment Court for both the District Court and East End. He is a licensed attorney in Maryland and New York.

Lennon is currently a Major in the Marine Corps Reserves and previously held the billets of platoon commander, Battalion assistant operations officer, production officer, detachment commander, Company Executive Officer, Intelligence Operations and Plans Officer at Headquarters Marine Corps in the Pentagon, and currently the Intelligence Officer at 4th Reconnaissance Battalion. He received the Purple Heart Medal and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.

Chad stated, “I am honored to have the opportunity to help my fellow Veterans in any capacity, while teaching the students who will soon be attorneys. The students in the clinic have a tremendous opportunity to learn a variety of topics in the law while utilizing the skills they have learned in the classroom to serve the clients. Suffolk County has the largest population of Veterans in the State and in the top-20 in the nation. It is critical that our clinic provide a level of excellence to those who served our nation and I will ensure that happens.”
