Public Interest Job Fair to be Held at Touro Law on February 8, 2011
January 4, 2011Central Islip, NY – Touro Law Center will host the fourth annual Touro Law Public Interest and Government Career Fair to be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from 2:00 – 7:00 pm. More than 100 non-profit and government agencies have been invited to participate in the event, most of which are Long Island organizations. Last year, more than 100 offers of employment, both permanent and summer, were made to Touro Law students and alumni at the fair.
“This job fair is a great opportunity for Touro Law students and alumni to learn about a wide variety of public interest work opportunities available to them while assisting interested agencies in finding qualified assistance,” said Thomas Maligno, Director of Public Interest and Executive Director of the Public Advocacy Center at Touro Law. “The job fair has proven to be an overwhelming success for all involved and we look forward to another successful event this year.”
Touro Law offers financial aid, work study and Fellowship opportunities to students for public interest summer work. Therefore, many of the agencies who participate in the fair are able to hire students at no cost to the agency. “This is a real win-win for students looking to gain hands-on legal experience and agencies who do not have the budget for paid summer interns,” said Maligno.
In addition, Loan Forgiveness information is available to those alumni who are pursuing careers in the pubic sector. This past summer, in a climate when job opportunities for law students were became increasingly more difficult to find, Touro Law proudly offered fellowships and work study opportunities to 140 students who expressed interest in working in the public sector.
