Biography
Fern A. Fisher is a Justice of the New York State Supreme Court who currently serves as the Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for New York City Courts. She started her career as a Legal Services attorney in Manhattan Housing Court. Justice Fisher has also served as Deputy Director of Harlem Legal Services, Inc. and as a NY State Assistant Attorney General. In 1989, she was appointed Judge of the Housing Part of the NY City Civil Court, and the following year was elected to the Civil Court, where she served as Deputy Supervising Judge. In 1993, she was elected to the Supreme Court. In 1996, she was appointed Administrative Judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York, where she served until she was appointed to her current position in 2009. Justice Fisher is a contributor to Residential Landlord-Tenant Law in New York, a practice guide by Lawyers Cooperative Publishing. She received her B.A. summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Howard University and a J.D. in 1978 from Harvard Law School.
