2 Credits

This course will analyze the role of the lawyer pre- and post-disaster. Coverage includes the definition of disaster; individual, business and government issues that predictably arise in disasters; and state, national and international laws that govern recovery from disasters. The focus will be on practical information and skills that lawyers can use to advise clients before and after a disaster, to protect their own practices in the event of a disaster, and to become involved in pro bono service post-disaster. Students will also consider disaster law as an area for private practice and public service. (No prerequisite.)
