Jewish Legal History - LAW834

This course will survey the periods of Jewish legal history from antiquity to the present day. For each period, the major issues, processes, literature and personalities that had an impact on the development of the Jewish legal system will be studied. The course will also consider the way the Jewish legal system related to the surrounding legal and cultural environments. The course will conclude with a study of the Jewish legal system in the modern era, including its role in the State of Israel. (No prerequisite. Satisfies Perspective Requirement.)
