International Commercial Law & Dispute Resolution - LAW837

This course covers: (1) an overview of the nature and structure of international business transactions; (2) an overview of mediation and arbitration as private means of resolving international commercial disputes; (3) a brief introduction to private international law and comparative contract law principles; (4) an in-depth study of the law governing international sales of goods, with a focus on the CISG; (5) an in-depth study of the law governing international commercial arbitration and enforcement of arbitration awards, with a focus on the UNCITRAL Model Law and the New York Convention; and (6) the development of analytical, research, oral advocacy, and written advocacy skills in the context of a dispute arising out of a practical problem based on a fictional international sales transaction. (No prerequisite. Croatia program course satisfies Intermediate Skills Requirement.)
