Disaster Relief Clinic Course Description - LAWN869

Students will learn basic lawyering skills while assisting clients impacted by Hurricane Sandy, which devastated the northeastern portion of the country in October 2012. Under faculty supervision, students will represent clients in landlord-tenant, real estate, land use, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) claims, utility, insurance, employment, contractor and consumer problems, as well as issues that have a broad impact on disaster recovery and related public policy questions. The course consists of two components: the 2-credit Disaster Law & Policy course (a pre- or co-requisite), and the 3-credit clinic, which includes a 2-hour weekly seminar. (No prerequisite.)
