The Center for Innovation in Business, Law & Technology

Gary Shaw, Interim Director

At the Center for Innovation in Business, Law, and Technology (IBLT) our three key objectives are: education, community outreach, and creating a world-class academic research center on legal and policy issues related to new and emerging technologies.

The Center focuses on the legal ramifications of introducing technology into business—in particular, problems concerning protection of intellectual property, technology transfer, patent applications, and licensing agreements. It also offers programs to inform business community members about legal issues arising at the intersection of technology and business. Ultimately, through law clinics working with existing incubators, the Center will provide low cost legal assistance to the Long Island business community to facilitate business development and the commercialization of new technology. The research arm of the Institute aims to develop programs to promote the rapid transfer of high technology innovations from the laboratory to the market place. It will also produce a scholarly journal devoted to legal and policy issues concerning law and emerging technologies.
