| "The literature of Jewish law is distinguished by its being not merely professional material for judges, attorneys, and Rabbinic scholars, but also study material for every Jew, irrespective of his age, profession, and abilities."—Professor Chaim Povarsky,
Director, Institute of Jewish Law
The impressive Judaica collection in the Touro Law Center Library focuses on Jewish law, supporting courses offered in various aspects of
halakah and the work of the Institute of Jewish Law. The collection includes Jewish legal literature in English and Hebrew, including the Mishna, the Talmud, the codifications of Maimonides, the Tur, and the Shulchan Aruch. It includes as well the commentaries, novellae, and responsa of acknowledged Rabbinc scholars.
In addition to the basic books and other items on Jewish law, philosophy, and history, the library collects material related to the Holocaust. An additional grant from the Littauer Foundation to the already existing Lucius N. Littauer Judaica Book Fund has enabled the library to expand its collection of materials related to the Shoah.
A unique part of the Judaica Collection is the Lillie Goldstein Collection, a traveling library that duplicates the core collection. This collection may be borrowed by law schools without such resources wishing to offer courses in Jewish law.
The Judaica Collection is open to legal scholars and other members of the Jewish community of Long Island. We welcome those who wish to study these rich treasures of the Jewish heritage.
