April 2009 Update: Please note that this program was cancelled for 2009 by the host institution, Moscow State University.
Touro Law Center and Loyola University New Orleans School of Law, in cooperation with the Law School of Moscow State University, is proud to sponsor an exciting three-week summer law program in Moscow, Russia.
The program will provide law students with the opportunity to study law in a country whose legal, economic, social, and cultural foundations have undergone an historic transition. The fate of this important country depends in large part on the strength and reformation of its legal institutions and law. Moscow, the capital city of the former Soviet Union, is the cultural, financial, and intellectual center and political capital of the Russian Federation. It boasts a variety of governmental institutions, historical sites, theaters and museums, and serves as an ideal base for trips to the countryside and other important cities of the former Soviet Union.
The Summer Program is hosted by the prestigious and internationally renowned Law School of Moscow State University (MSU). Established in 1755, MSU is the oldest and premier university in Russia. Courses, supplemental lectures, and tours will allow students not only to study substantive legal issues, but also to compare the emerging 21st-Century Russian legal system with alternatives from the United States and other common and civil law jurisdictions.
This educational experience will enhance students’ understanding and appreciation of the laws and legal system of the United States, help prepare students for international law practice, and provide valuable insights into doing business with a large and important trading partner.
