WWW.T OUROL AW.E DU 57 Barbara Mehrman served as Assistant Dean of Career Services at Touro Law from 1989 to 2006 then as Assistant Dean Emeritus until 2011. During her tenure Barbara worked tirelessly and selflessly for the students the alumni and the advancement of a law school that at the time was new to the area and not well known in the surrounding legal communities. Barbara had worked for nine years with the Suffolk County Bar Association and their Academy of Law. She was a known entity in the legal community for her innovative programs passion for helping to provide access to justice and dedication to women and childrens issues. Dean Glickstein realizing that Barbara was a major presence in the legal community with an inclination toward public interest recognized she would be a great fit for Touro Law. Dean Glickstein recruited Barbara to head the Office of Career Services. Barbaras work ethic and presence in the community helped raise the profile of Touro Law during a critical time in our history. We were a new law school with relatively few connections on Long Island. Barbara worked unremittingly for the institution including our students and alumni. She was able to establish relationships on our behalf build bridges and she helped put Touro Law on the map. Hiring Barbara Mehrman was one of the best decisions I had made as dean. She helped propel the law center setting us on the path to our current status said Howard Glickstein. Barbara was a valued respected and revered member of the Touro Law family. She spent many of her days in the early years meeting with members of the bench and the bar to share stories of Touro Law students and school successes. She was passionate about helping to establish the law school and open doors for students and alumni. Many alumni credit their current careers to her efforts on their behalf and remain thankful to Barbara. Jeanine Compitello Class of 1990 stated Barbara always had the best interests of students in mind and she worked tirelessly to network and help find positions and opportunities for students. Students and colleagues alike would trust Barbara with their problems personal and professional. She always had time to lend an ear and some words of wisdom. Many Touro Law staff reflect on their early days and state that Barbara was one of their first friends one of the first to reach out and welcome them. Barbara faced many of her own challenges during her tenure at Touro Law from breast cancer to esphogeal cancer but she always continued to work continued to be upbeat continued to smile and continued to be a valued member of Touro Law community. Barbara Mehrman is a cornerstone of Touro Laws growth and success and has touched many lives along the way. And while she will be greatly missed Barbara will never be forgotten by her Touro Law family.
