Patricia Salkin Named Interim Provost for Graduate and Professional Division at Touro College

Patricia E. Salkin, dean of the Touro Law Center, was appointed the Touro Graduate and Professional Division interim provost, Touro College President, Dr. Alan Kadish announced today. Salkin, who will assume her new role on August 1st, is a nationally renowned scholar, educator and expert in policy and government ethics. An accomplished administrator, she has held numerous leadership appointments within the American Bar Association, the American Association of Law Schools and the American Law Institute. Salkin also serves as co-chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Legal Education. She will continue to serve as Dean of the Jacob D. Fuchsberg Touro Law Center while the search for a permanent provost continues. 

 

As Interim Provost, Salkin will serve as the Chief Academic Officer for the Graduate and Professional Division at Touro and provide leadership, policy formation and guidance for faculty and academic programs. Her office will oversee Touro’s research enterprise and budget planning as well as curriculum development and personnel management for the academic divisions. Salkin will establish a new level of communication and coordination among the deans of all the graduate and professional schools, in an effort to enhance Touro’s work with State Education Department and regional and professional accreditation bodies. She will work with the President and senior leadership team to carry out the college’s academic mission while building and managing the infrastructure and operations needed to organize the provost’s office.

Having spent three decades working in education and in state government, I have developed a keen awareness of government and regulatory operations and look forward to strengthening existing relationships to help advance Touro’s mission and goals,” said Salkin.

Prior to her appointment as Dean of Touro Law Center in May of 2012, Salkin served at Albany Law School for 22 years during which time she held numerous appointments, including the Raymond and Ella Smith Distinguished Professor of Law, and as both Associate Dean and Director of the Government Law Center. She previously worked for the state of New York. Salkin earned her BA, cum laude, from University at Albany, and a JD, also cum laude, from Albany Law School of Union University. Salkin served on the transition teams for attorneys general-elect Eric Schneiderman, Andrew Cuomo and Eliot Spitzer.
