Touro Law Site of Long Island’s First “140 Characters Conference”

April 5, 2011

Central Islip, NY – Touro Law Center will be the host site for Long Island’s first 140 Characters Conference (Twitter hashtag #140confli) on May 26, 2011. The conference will provide a platform for both the local and (via Twitter) worldwide community to listen, connect, share and engage with each other, while collectively exploring the effects of the emerging real-time Internet on business, individuals and society. The event arises out of the 140 Characters Conference (#140conf) series produced worldwide by technology visionary and Long Island native Jeff Pulver. Since the launch of the #140conf events in 2009, conferences have taken place in cities around the world including Washington D.C., San Francisco, Tel Aviv, Barcelona and London.

“We are so excited to host a 140 Characters Conference at Touro Law Center,” said Jonathan I. Ezor, Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Institute for Business, Law and Technology at Touro Law. “Having participated in previous 140 Characters conferences, and having helped produce the Social Media Day of Giving at Touro Law in October 2010, I know how much knowledge and inspiration these events provide to attendees. This conference will bring together leaders from numerous industries and the not-for-profit sector as well as entrepreneurs and individuals from the entire Long Island region and far beyond to share with and learn from each other.”

The conference schedule will be unique and fast paced – 10 and 15 minute talks - to provide a platform for as many people as possible to share their thoughts and engage in conversation with attendees (both in-person and virtual). Many of the presenters will be Long Island-based, adding a local focus to the event as they tell their stories and discuss their experiences. There will also be opportunities to meet, network and brainstorm throughout the day. Attendees will take away knowledge, perspectives and insights to the next wave of effects Twitter and the real-time Internet will have on business, law, entertainment, and society as a whole.
