Alumni-Student First Year Mentor Program

The Alumni-Student First-Year Mentor Program promotes professionalism among first-year students as they make the transition into the legal profession as well as provides the opportunity for students to meet practicing attorneys and expose them to different areas of practice.

By creating a forum for mentees to meet with their mentors, the program enhances the quality of the student experience by providing a positive mentoring and professional relationship and opportunities for students to expand their knowledge beyond the classroom as alumni share their insights and experiences with student mentees. To participate in the program:

n        Alumni and students make a commitment to attend the Meet and Greet Reception (either breakfast or dinner). Alumni mentors invite their assigned student mentee to the office for a day, to court to witness a proceeding and/or share sample pleadings/forms, etc.

n        Each student provides their assigned mentor with a copy of his/her resume before the Meet and Greet Reception

n        Each mentor talks to their student mentee about law school – first-year jitters, preparing for final exams, legal writing assignments and offers a perspective on grades and how to balance law school and personal time.

If you would like to sign up to be a mentor for a first-year student, please call 631.761.7063 or email alumni@tourolaw.edu.
