Milton and Miriam Handler Foundation Award $20K to Touro Law

The Milton and Miriam Handler Foundation has awarded a $20k grant to Touro Law. The grant is to be used for faculty development for the 2012-2013 academic year.

“Touro Law’s faculty is comprised of dedicated and passionate teachers who are actively engaged in scholarship, research and legal education reform,” said Dean Patricia Salkin. “Faculty development is critical to our school’s growth and vital to our law school’s reputation among the bar, bench and academy. This grant will enable our dynamic faculty to continue to set the highest goals for their scholarship and enable them to share their research and teaching methods with colleagues across the Academy,” continued Salkin.

Faculty development includes support of research and scholarship as well as funding to support speaking engagements at conferences, forums, retreats and other professionally related events. Many Touro Law faculty members have national and international reputations for their scholarship and teaching. The faculty consists of approximately 50 full-time members.

The Milton and Miriam Handler Foundation was established in 1963 and provides financial support to institutions of higher education and funding for health care in New York.

“Touro Law is extremely grateful to the Handler Foundation for their continued support of our programs and academic initiatives. Through their generosity we have been able to fund many worthwhile endeavors, including the Handler Conference on Curriculum held at Touro Law in 1994. Their support has been and continues to be a cornerstone of our academic enrichment,” stated Dean Salkin.
