Touro Law Teams Wins Nassau Academy Moot Court Competition

April 2, 2014

The Touro Law Center team of Brian DiPentima, second-year part-time evening student from Westbury, NY, and Brandon Maharahj, second-year full-time student from Deer Park, NY, took top honors at the annual Nassau Academy of Law Hon. Elaine Jackson Stack Moot Court Competition, held March 25-26, 2014 at the Nassau County Bar Association headquarters in Mineola. Mr. DiPentima also received the Best Oralist Award.

Dean Salkin stated, “I am very proud of these students who worked hard and represented Touro Law so well. This is actually the second year in a row that Touro Law has won this competition. It’s both exciting and very rewarding for our students and our law school.”

The team argued before a panel of distinguished judges that included Peter J. Mancuso, Hon. Elaine J. Stack, Hon. Leonard B. Austin, Sondra K. Pardes and Mark Gann.

Congratulations are also extended to student coach Laura Johnson, Touro Law’s second team of 2FTs Melissa Eisenberg and Matt Loeser, and their student coach Cristina Knorr.

"It was thrilling to watch Brian and Brandon in the final round. They argued their case professionally and persuasively, and the judges all commented that they seemed like seasoned attorneys,” said Faculty Director of the Moot Court Advocacy Board Professor Heather Melniker. She continued, “This win was the result of months of hard work and commitment, and I could not be prouder of their well-deserved victory. This competition capped off a very successful year for the Moot Court Honors Board, and the entire Touro Law community is delighted with all its accomplishments."
