Reception to be Held to Honor Alums, Raise Money for Loan Forgiveness
January 19, 2011Central Islip, NY – The student-run Public Interest Law Organization of Touro (PILOT) will be hosting a wine and cheese reception to honor graduates who currently serve as elected representatives and raise money for Touro Law Center’s loan forgiveness program on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. The keynote speaker at the event will be Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, a member of Touro Law Center’s class of 1991. A suggested donation of $25 can be given at the door or paid online at www.tourolaw.edu/giftgiving.
“This event is an excellent way for our current students to honor our alumni who are working in public service, while making the Touro Law community aware of our loan forgiveness program and raising money for it,” said Thomas Maligno, Executive Director of the William Randolph Hearst Public Advocacy Center and Director of Public Interest at Touro Law.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Touro Law Center’s Howard A. Glickstein Loan Forgiveness Fund. Touro Law has always had a longstanding commitment to support graduates who choose to pursue careers in the public interest. Grants are awarded on a competitive and need basis and reflect financial reality. Grants to recipients may be no more than $1,000 to $2,000 per year, but have been as high as $3,000 to $4,000 per year. As the endowment grows, the grants awarded will be adjusted accordingly.
