Comparative Employment Discrimination Law - LAW878

This course explores selected topics of employment discrimination from a comparative perspective, examining the approaches taken by the United States and European Union countries, including Germany. The course begins with an introduction to theories of employment discrimination, called disparate treatment and disparate impact in the United States and direct and indirect discrimination in the European Union. The course then addresses a number of specific employment discrimination topics, such as: gender discrimination, including pregnancy discrimination and sexual harassment; sexual orientation discrimination; race discrimination; and disability discrimination. (No prerequisite.)
