Annual Public Interest Job Fair to be Held at Touro Law on February 25, 2014

February 12, 2014

Touro Law Center will host its Seventh Annual Touro Law Public Interest/Government Career Fair on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm. More than 250 non-profit and government agencies have been invited to participate in the event, most of which are Long Island organizations. Last year, more than 50 offers of employment, both permanent and summer, were made to Touro Law students and alumni at the fair. This year, organizations will also be hiring student externs, allowing students to gain valuable experience while gaining academic credit throughout a semester.

“This job fair has proven to be successful for participating agencies as well as Touro Law students and alumni,” said Dean Patricia Salkin. “We look forward to another robust fair this year resulting in many well-matched opportunities.”

Touro Law offers financial aid, work study and Fellowship opportunities to students for public interest summer work. Therefore, many of the agencies who participate in the fair are able to hire students at no cost to the agency. In addition, Loan Forgiveness information is available to those alumni who are pursuing careers in the public sector. This past summer, in a climate when job opportunities for law students were became increasingly more difficult to find, Touro Law proudly offered fellowships and work study opportunities to 140 students who expressed interest in working in the public sector.

Touro Law students and alumni should plan to meet employers and have resumes ready to distribute at the fair. For more information, please contact Robin Nackman, Director of Employer Relations at (631) 761-7048 or by e-mail at rnackman@tourolaw.edu.
