This course explores the rights asserted in international instru-ments and the manner by which they are protected under national and international laws. Topics covered include the United Nations system of human rights protection; the European Convention on Human Rights and its Commission and Court of Human Rights; the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (the Helsinki Accords); the Inter-American System of Human Rights Protection, including the Inter-American Commission and Court of Human Rights; the African system of Human and Peoples’ Rights; and International Humanitarian Law—human rights protection during armed conflicts. (No prerequisite. Satisfies Perspective Requirement.)
