Description
Although lawyers have been serving as college and university presidents since the 1700s, Dr. Patricia Salkin, in her new book, May it Please the Campus: Lawyers Leading Higher Education, documents a little discussed trend showing the exponential increase in the number of lawyers being appointed as college and university presidents over the last three decades, and the 2020s already is on track to beat all records. One chapter in the book specifically discusses women lawyer presidents, pointing out that no campus had a woman lawyer president until 1976 and until the 2000s the number of women serving in the campus C-Suite was small. That tide is turning, and women lawyers are more prominently represented in higher education leadership positions.

Patricia Salkin, former Chair of the ABA State and Local Government Section and member of the House of Delegates, will discuss her findings and highlight women lawyer presidents during a Women's History Month free webinar. The program is hosted by Touro Law Center and its dean, Elena Langan will engage Salkin in a conversation about women lawyer campus presidents. The American Association of Law Schools Section on Women in Legal Education and the American Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession are co-sponsors of the program.
