159 Receive Law Degrees at 40th Annual Commencement Ceremony

Commencement Address Delivered by New York State Attorney General Letitia James

Touro Law Center’s 2022 commencement ceremony was held on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in Brookville, NY, honoring 159 graduates of Touro Law.

The ceremony included an address from commencement speaker the Honorable Letitia James, New York Attorney General. She told the graduates, “Every one of you has a profound potential for being an agent of possible change in a career that demands the highest level of competence and ethics.” She continued, “We have the power to choose what we do with the life we have been given. Today you are ready for this next chapter. You are ready to step into the unknown to fulfill your duties as interpreters and defenders of the law. You are ready to act as a sword and shield defending the rule of law and protecting those excluded from its reach. Make every second, every moment, and every decision count.”

In addressing the graduating class, Dean Elena B. Langan applauded the class for their resiliency and commitment to their legal studies through a pandemic. She continued, “I can say without reservation that you are entering one of the best professions in the world. You will find fulfilling careers, great opportunities for financial advancement, the ability to help others, and personal satisfaction. Your law degree will open doors for you to an exciting career.”

Valedictorians and salutatorians were honored for their outstanding achievements. This year’s full-time valedictorian was James Bunster and part-time program valedictorian was Brendan Dauscher. Full-time division salutatorian was Conor Byrnes and Christine M. Velia was the part-time division salutatorian Ariel Berkowitz served as the Ronni D. Cohen Class Orator. 

Touro Law’s Class of 2022 joins more than 6,500 graduates before them. Touro’s FlexTime program graduated its inaugural class this year, with 13 receiving degrees through the hybrid program. This year’s class includes 11 graduates who have accepted positions as law clerks, 11 graduates who will be working as Assistant District Attorneys as well as countless others who will be working for law firms, both large and small, corporations, and more.
