The course provides a comprehensive overview of the federal laws addressing special education. In addition, students will learn about the least restrictive environment and procedural due process requirements under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), including the right of parents to obtain an independent educational evaluation (IEE) of their children. The last part of the course will involve a review of the rules and limitations imposed by the IDEA on disciplinary procedures involving students with disabilities. (No prerequisite.)
