Touro Law Dean Patricia Salkin Appointed to The Joint Committee on Public Ethics (JCOPE) Review Commission

May 4, 2015

Touro Law Center Dean Patricia Salkin has been appointed to the The Joint Committee on Public Ethics (JCOPE) Review Commission by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, Temporary President and Majority Leader of the Senate Dean G. Skelos, and Speaker of the Assembly Carl E. Heastie. The committee will examine and evaluate the activities and performance of the Joint Committee on Public Ethics, issuing a report by November 1, 2015.

The Joint Committee on Public Ethics plays a significant role in the operation and oversight of government – promoting integrity by helping those in public service understanding their ethical obligations, ensuing transparency through rigorous public reporting, disclosures, and providing accountability through enforcement actions to address ethical misconduct.

“I am honored to have been asked to contribute to ensuring the public trust in our state government,” stated Dean Salkin.

Salkin is a nationally known scholar on government ethics, having edited two books (one published by the ABA and one by the NSYBA on government ethics) and having written numerous articles and columns. She served as co-chair of the NYSBA Task Force on Government Ethics and she currently serves as a advisor to the ALI Government Ethics Project.  Dean Salkin also co-chairs the ethics committee of the ABA State and Local Government Law Section.

Dean Salkin joins seven others including academicians, lawyers and former lawmakers on the review committee including: Anthony Crowell, Dean at New York Law School; Michael S. Feldberg, partner at Allen & Overy LLP; Seymour James, Attorney-in-Chief of the Legal Aid Society in New York City; Tony Jordan, Washington County District Attorney; William LaPiana, Rita and Joseph Solomon Professor of Wills, Trusts as well as the Estates Director, Estate Planning, Graduate Tax Program for New York Law School; Elizabeth Moore, Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Con Edison; and Former Senator Dale Volker, represented Western New Yorkers in the State Legislature for more than 35 years before retiring in 2010.
