The Award Recognizing the Justice’s Memoir, “Lovely One,” Will be Presented on November 25, 2025
September 5, 2025Touro Law Center announced today that United States Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson will receive its distinguished Bruce K. Gould Book Award in recognition of her acclaimed memoir, “Lovely One” on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at the Law Center in Central Islip, NY.
"We are deeply honored to present this year's Gould Book Award to Justice Jackson," said Elena B. Langan, Dean of Touro Law. "Her memoir offers profound insights into the legal profession and the American justice system, while providing an inspiring account of her journey to the nation's highest court. This work exemplifies the caliber of legal literature that the Gould Book Award seeks to recognize."
Touro Law’s Bruce K. Gould Book Award is presented annually to the author of an outstanding publication related to the law, legal profession or legal system. The award is named for its benefactor Bruce K. Gould, an alumnus of Touro Law Center, class of 1984. The award has become known as one of the most prestigious awards of its kind. Since 1993, it has been presented to many notable recipients including Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Anita Hill, Alan M. Dershowitz, Bob Woodward, John Grisham, the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, and Senator Christopher Dodd.
Justice Jackson made history in 2022 when she became the first black woman to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States. Her memoir follows her pursuit to becoming a Supreme Court Justice, weaving her own story into the story of civil rights in the United States while offering personal reflections on past experiences. The memoir offers readers an account of the family history that shaped her, as well as an intimate look at the challenges and triumphs that shaped her legal career.
"This visit represents an extraordinary opportunity for our students to engage with one of the most influential legal minds of our time," said Dean Langan. "Justice Jackson's presence on campus will undoubtedly provide inspiration for the next generation of legal professionals."
