October 29, 2025

New York Medical College (NYMC) recognized Associate Professor Rebecca S. Feinberg, J.D., M.BE., M.S., at its 32nd Annual Faculty Author Celebration & Awards Ceremony for her outstanding scholarly contributions published in 2024.

Professor Feinberg, who holds a cross-appointment as Touro Law Center’s Distinguished Chair in Health Law, Bioethics and Policy and Associate Professor of Law and as Associate Professor of Public Health and Bioethics at New York Medical College, received the prestigious award for NYMC First Author Publication with the Highest Number of News Mentions for her timely and impactful article, "The Alabama Embryo Decision-The Politics and Reality of Recognizing 'Extrauterine Children,'" published in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association). The publication, co-authored with M.S. Sinha and I.G. Cohen, examined the significant legal and ethical implications of a landmark Alabama court decision regarding embryo status. Feinberg was the only non-physician or scientist to win an award at the event.

"I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from New York Medical College," said Feinberg. "This work represents the critical importance of interdisciplinary scholarship in addressing complex bioethical and legal challenges. I am grateful to my co-authors and to NYMC for fostering an environment that supports meaningful research on issues that impact patients, healthcare providers, and society at large."

The annual Faculty Author Celebration recognizes NYMC faculty members whose scholarly works have made substantial contributions to their respective fields. The ceremony celebrates academic excellence and the vital role of research and scholarship in advancing medical education, healthcare, and public discourse.

Feinberg's award-winning article garnered widespread media attention, reflecting the public's keen interest in the intersection of reproductive law, medical ethics, and healthcare policy.
