Office of Student Services
The Office of Student Services addresses quality of life issues, provides academic and non-academic counseling, coordinates disability services, supports student organizations and serves as a source of information for our students.
The Office is administered by Assistant Dean Althea Sterling. She provides general advising and counseling, including:
- course selection
- long-range course planning
- early graduation
- adjusting to law school
- stress and anxiety

The office is responsible for key areas, including:
- Disability Resources. providing confidential support for students with physical, learning, or other disabilities. Services include the development of an individualized accommodation plan, including appropriate examination modifications, such as extra time. Medical or other professional documentation may be required. To find out more, review the Handbook for Students with Disabilities or contact via email or by phone at (631) 761-7050.
- Counseling / Advising. All law students experience stress to one degree or another. The Law Center has a few different resources available for student advising, counseling and mental health assistance. All conversations are confidential.

Althea Sterling,Assistant Dean, is available for informal, confidential counseling regarding stress management as the result of law school or non-law-school issues, bereavement, and crisis intervention. Elizabeth Eckhardt, LCSW, PhD,is a professional counselor who visits the Law Center regularly while classes are in session and is available to meet with students and staff for personal counseling on a confidential basis, by appointment, free of charge. Appointments can be made directly through her office at (516) 616-3296 or eae214@nyu.edu ,or via the Office of Student Services. |
