Additionally, a number of Board Members are distinguished state and federal judges. This provides uniquely helpful insight because those members bring the viewpoint of the bench in addition to the bar in terms of practice, need and vision. The Board continues to grow and find new ways to contribute to the law school. A nominating committee has recently been formed, chaired by John Bishar. Additionally, Tom Rosicki, Class of 1997, was recently appointed as Vice Chair. Three years ago, the Board launched The Board of Governor’s Summer Associates Program, initiated by John Bishar. Through the program, board members commit to a ten-week paid summer associate working in their office or for their firm. Students apply to be summer associates and are selected with an effort to match student interest and employer needs. This program enables Touro Law students to be more competitive in the legal marketplace by gaining valuable hands-on experience while in law school. John Bishar, General Counsel of Arbor Mortgage, stated, “This seemed like a natural way for Board members to get more involved with Touro Law and extend a meaningful work experience to students.” He continued, “It helps students to gain valuable experience that makes them more marketable upon graduation and exposes attorneys to Touro Law students who demonstrate both knowledge and skill coupled with a willingness to work hard over the summer. It’s a fantastic program for all involved.” The Board meets four times a year, with one meeting dedicated to interacting with faculty members and another dedicated for board members to meet with students. These meetings allow Board members to engage in an open dialogue with Touro Law community members and learn more about the intricacies of the school. “I look forward to continually meeting with members of the Touro Law community at Board meetings and community events,” said Tom Rosicki, founder of Rosicki, Rosicki & Associates P.C., graduate of Touro Law Class of 1997 and newly appointed Vice Chair of the Board. “These are important opportunities for us to keep a pulse on the people and happenings of the law school as we are often asked to evaluate the school based on today’s current marketplace. It provides us with a chance to immerse ourselves in the school’s people and culture which is critically important to our role as active Board members who can offer meaningful suggestions and advice.” The Board continues to grow with the school, and is credited with helping to advance the school’s reputation. Adjunct professor and longtime Board member Ilene Cooper stated, “Being a member of this Board requires thoughtful participation but is worth every minute of our time. Our participation and input are valued and truly help make a difference in advancing the Law Center.” Board of Governors
