Publications: Professor Kaufman co-authored, “Tibet’s Stateless Nationals III: Tibetan Refugees in India.” She also published an article entitled, “The Plight of US-Affiliated Iraqis and Afghans” in the Suffolk Journal. DESERIEE KENNEDY Professor of Law Publications: Professor Kennedy published, Using the NFL As A Model? Considering Zero Tolerance in the Workplace for Batterers, 45 u. balt. l. rev. 293 (2016), which was written as part of a symposium on Applied Feminism at the University of Baltimore School of Law. She also published the New York Law of Domestic Violence 3d edition, 2015 update, along with Melissa Breger, Jill Zuccardy, and L. Hand Elkins. Professional Activities: Professor Kennedy is a member of the Advisory Board of Directors of the Nassau County Domestic Violence Agency, The Safe Center, Long Island and serves as the faculty liaison as a member of the board the Theodore Roosevelt Inn of Court. Editors of the Law Center’s newest academic journal—The Journal of Aging, Longevity, Law and Policy. Presentations: Professor Foley gave Opening Remarks at the Suffolk County Office of Minority Health’s 10th Annual “Taking the Road to Eliminating Health Disparities” Conference on November 6, 2015 at Touro Law Center. Professor Foley presented “Learning from the Medical Education Experience: Enabling Curricular Change in Legal Writing Programs” at the Southeastern Legal Writing Conference on January 23, 2016. She was also a panelist on Professional Development at the Southeastern Legal Writing Conference. Professor Foley moderated a panel discussion on “Brandeis and Privacy” at the conference – “Louis D. Brandeis: An Interdisciplinary Retrospective” – on March 31, 2016, at the Law Center. She moderated the Practitioner Panel Discussions on Health Law Practice, and the Intersection of Law and Medicine, on May 3, 2016, and November 11, 2015, at Touro Law Center. Student co-sponsoring organizations included the Health Law Society, Trust & Estates Elder Law Association, and the Touro Law Student Division to the Federal Bar Association. Professional Activities: On October 5, 2015, Professor Foley was sworn in as Vice- President of the Federal Bar Association -Eastern District of New York Chapter at the Central Islip Federal Courthouse by the Honorable Arlene Lindsay. Professor Foley was elected as an Executive Committee Member of the Association of American Law Schools – Aging and the Law Section on January 7, 2016. In 2016, Professor Foley was appointed to a leadership position in the American Bar Association Health Law Section, as Vice-Chair, Publications Editorial Board Books for the 2016-2017 Bar Year. Professor Foley is a Steering Committee member of the Laurel Rubin Farm Worker Justice Project, a farm worker advocacy group that supports and funds law students to work in summer internships with civil legal service providers assisting farm worker communities. Professional Activities: Professor Kaufman served as an expert witness in several political asylum cases on behalf of Tibetans. She also is working on a pro bono case with a Touro student to secure a Special Immigrant Visa for an Afghan who worked on behalf of the US government in Afghanistan and is now facing death threats.
