Why I Give... Martin Tankleff ’14 “Subsequent to graduation, I entered into a new stage of my life where I could establish a scholarship at Touro Law. Giving back to our society is important and, for me, giving to my law school is a priority knowing how difficult it is for students to finance their educations and knowing that each student can make such a difference. While I was a student, I helped to establish a wrongful conviction externship program and I want to continue to bring interest and insight to Touro Law regarding wrongful convictions. Additionally, I had amazing relationships with the staff and students and I knew that establishing a scholarship would benefit future students. As a New York State exoneree, Touro Law gave me the opportunity to obtain my juris doctor degree. Throughout my years at Touro Law I was able to bring into focus the importance of fighting for the rights of a client. I am hoping that each and every recipient of the Marty & Laurie Tankleff Scholarship will know what it took for me to be able to establish the scholarship. Hopefully, each scholarship recipient will go onto greatness, and one day be able to give back and help an innocent prisoner regain their freedom; in turn, regaining their life.” W W W.
