W W W. TO U R O L AW. E D U 21 A NN UA L REP O RT We are extremely proud of the fact that in the past four years Touro Law has raised close to $13.5 million in new gifts and pledges from all sources. These funds include money raised for endowed chairs, programs, and scholarships. Further, last winter we launched our Legacy Society with a $1M planned gift from a Touro Law graduate. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: • Approximately $1.7 million in new student scholarships with naming gifts ranging from $25,000 to $250,000. • This year’s public interest auction raised more than $84,000 for summer public interest fellowships. • For the third consecutive year, members of the Touro Law Center Board of Governors have funded 12 new summer associates positions for Touro Law students. We would like to publicly thank the Program Chair, John Bishar and the other members of the Board of Governors for understanding the importance of practical, hands-on experience in a real practice setting. • Successful event fundraising from the Liberty and Justice for All Dinner with cumulative four year totals of close to $1 million. • Government and foundation grants totaling millions of dollars for the Mortgage Foreclosure Clinic, Senior Citizen Program, Disaster Law Program, Veterans’ and Servicemembers’ Rights Clinic, and Immigration Clinic have enabled us to continue to serve the community while offering educational opportunities to our students. • The Jewish Law Institute has successfully created a Board of Advisors including many prominent national attorneys and members of the judiciary. The group has had two successful organizational meetings at the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and looks toward the coming academic year for new programs, lectures and CLE programs. • The Class Gift Program, now in its fourth year, continues to raise funds from graduating students, this year with a 57% participation rate. This bodes well for the Law Center’s future and alumni fundraising. • The Law Center has successfully secured half of a million dollars in New York State funding for our capital student housing construction project. In addition, we have received a $200,000 pledge for the same project and continue to seek additional funding. • New Institutes and Centers created and strengthened in the past four years include: The Institute for Land Use and Sustainable Development Law, Aging and Longevity Law Institute, and the Jewish Law Institute.
