The Class of 2016 was celebrated on May 29, 2016 at commencement ceremonies at The Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on Long Island. Receiving their degrees and becoming proud members of the Touro Law Center alumni family were 157 graduates, including 149 J.D.s, 1 Dual Degree JD/MBA, 6 LL.M.’s in U.S. Legal Studies and 1 general LL.M. The commencement address was delivered by Mark C. Zauderer, a high-profile litigator and named partner at the Manhattan boutique firm Flemming Zulack Williamson Zauderer LLP. In his remarks he reminded graduates that they would remember this day for many years to come and advised them to hold professionalism in high regard as they embark upon their careers and to learn from mistakes. He told graduates, “If you respect your work and yourself for the way you do it, you will not only succeed but you will experience a lifetime of satisfaction in your chosen profession.” The ceremony also included remarks from full-time valedictorian Lauren C. Wittlin and part-time valedictorian Julia Marianela Capie Ansanelli as well as Ronnie D. Cohen Class Orator Abraham Dayon. During the ceremony an honorary degree was presented to Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams and three faculty members were honored: Deborah Post, who is retiring, received the award for Devoted Service to the Ideals and Purposes of Legal Education; Adjunct Professor of the Year, went to Touro Law’s own Suffolk County Court Judge, Honorable Jeffrey Arlen Spinner and Rena Seplowitz was recognized as Class Professor of the Year.
